Already a bit older is the latest sound document by Californian Hardcore Thrashers HIRAX. And “Barrage Of Noise”, so the title of the EP, is exactly what the few, but all the more fervent die hard maniacs want to hear by the band. Not as fast anymore as on “Raging Violence“ or “Hate, Fear And Power“, but a lot more brutal will songs like the two (too) short opening tracks “Murder One“ and the title track attack you. Punky earslaughter with a certain Metal list.
On “Walk With Death“ everything looks a bit different. The song, which is loosened up by a calm guitar part and spoken samples, passes as pure banger song. “Broken Neck”, though, fully steps on the pedal, just to get a bit slower in the chorus. Unfortunately this song, too, is damn short, should have been a bit more. It’s very simply structured music, without many breaks or big variety, which is designed to go full throttle and doing just that.
Still, there is some variety thanks to two really good instrumentals “Jade“ and “French Pearl“). And what should I say about Katon W. De Pena? He still screams as unique and whacked out through the botany, but doesn’t do the full eunuch anymore. Well, he’s getting older, too. I really like the CD, but when will we finally get a full album?
