Two very common descriptions being thrown around in our community are “Extreme” and “Forward Thinking”… wouldn’t you agree? Usually the record labels as well as the ridiculous music industry are the ones giving the labels to bands... and while MISERY INDEX are by no means the most brutal kids on the block, nor are they the most innovative, they pack one hell of a heavy wallop and deserve both of these titles.
I remember back when I first heard “Retaliate” I remember thinking to myself that this wasn’t exactly my favourite style, but they we’re good, I liked em’. Now, with ‘Discordia” I pretty much had the same feelings at first listen, a little too rapid fire for my tastes at first, but just when I think I’ve had it, they demand me to listen more… so I did, over and over. This is definitely an album that needs to grow on me, which is good, because that is what makes them stick and last. To me, they have a sound similar to CEPHALIC CARNAGE and BOLT THROWER getting into a bar brawl with AMON AMARTH (sans the folkiness) and HIGH ON FIRE, all the while NAPALM DEATH is blasting on the juke box (sure beats the hell outta Toby Keith eh?)… Anywho, there, is that enough name drops for you?
Bottom line, anyone who’s followed the band knows what to expect… Extreme, Death and Grind fans alike, you too most likely need no introduction, but as for those of you out there who are like me and “Don’t” know everything about everything about music… well, here you go. Take it or leave it, these guys pummel, pound, grind, slam, scream, growl, riff and scream their way through “Discordia”, this is Extreme, Forward thinking metal for our generation… And, I also have to say this, but if you do already, or you find that you dig this style of music, I urge you to check out LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR as well, a bad ass band from the windy city! \m/ (Online June 12, 2006)
