I wasn’t the biggest fan of “The Great Cold Distance.” I thought it was enjoyable enough, but lacked an identity to really warrant a lot of attention. So now I’m spinning “TGCD”’s second single, “Deliberation,” and my opinion isn’t really changed.
So there’s three songs we’re dealing with. “Deliberation” is the same thing you’ve heard on the album, so we’ll move on. The “Urban Dub” of “In The White” makes the clean passages from the album version into straight acoustic and lengthens the song by about forty seconds, while the percussion has a decidedly more Rap-friendly sound (but the same beat). I actually ended up really liking this one. “Code Against The Code” really didn’t make much of an impression; it could have been any song from “The Great Cold Distance” and simply says “I am a KATATONIA song.” Not really any stronger or any weaker than the album material.
There’s a music video for “Deliberation,” which you can download on the band’s site or find on You Tube. It’s a modern underground tale of decay and emptiness in an urban setting. You can also download the album, minus the video, direct from Peaceville’s website for £1.99. If you’re hurting for more KATATONIA material, “Code Against The Code” will satisfy you and “In The White” will please you, but this release (as almost all singles) is for fans only.
