Anorexia Nervosa - Drudenhaus

The one who claims that no wonders happen these days could be quickly proven wrong. One should only listen to the debut album of the French band ANOREXIA NERVOSA and then this one, their second release, entitled “Drudenhaus”. There are worlds between them. They reveal a completely different aura as they had a few years back. We have no more dark and slow themes, cause the 9 track that are to be heard on these record are everything but slow. They play a lightning fast Black Metal, which reveals enough melody and keyboard-parts to be compared to the leading acts of the genre: DIMMU BORGIR or CRADLE OF FILTH. The comparison is not at all far-fetched, cause what ANOREXIA NERVOSA offer is labeled: quality product.

The guys impress with a diverse composition and a sound which offers unequalled opportunities. The use of violins pleased me much, sounds amazing!! Most of the songs hit from the very beginning (and that in the true sense of the word) but they still need a bit of time and patience to unfold in all of their greatness. It is an interesting fact that the lyrics have been written (and are performed) in four different languages: English, French, German and Latin. This diversity characterizes both the lyrics and the music heard on this record. And last but not least is true for the vocals as well.

The guys are really not short of musical skills. The vocals of front man Mr. Hreidmaar are close to the spheres where the vocals of Dani Filth are at home as well, maybe a bit less varied, but still specific for the music played here. He does not reinvent the wheel, but his performance is a respectable one indeed. Just like the performances of his fellow musicians: the guitar player, Mr. Bayle, delivers killer riffs and very good and inspired melody lines. The drumming of Mr. Vant leaves nothing to be desired and the keyboard part is really well built: not too much or not too little, just fitting.

The album of the French is for those who like both speed and melody and are ready to sacrifice some time for this album, you will be rewarded for sure!! (Online July 13, 2006)
