Sanctus - Aeon Sky
Now finally also American bands find out that Black Metal still rules high over here... SANCTUS are one of their kind and offers its debut with "Aeon Sky", which doesn't really convince me, though.
They manage, without doubt, to vary their compositions, avoiding the stereotypes of many colleagues, but still I miss the certain something to raise "Aeon Sky" above the others.
They are caught between brutal speed-attacks including crass vocals and melodic passages, where also the vocals are varied, with a clear voice here and there, combines Black Metal in its pure form with Gothic Metal, using keyboards and piano as a support for this.
Songs like "If We Fall..." or "Thy Desolation" make me listen up, the three-part "Odyssey" also is above average, but still the spark won't catch fire with me, despite the potential you sense. So let's better wait for the second one...
