Benighted - Psychose
Under this nice artwork that is half-way between IMPALED NAZARENE and MARILYN MANSON, is hidden an album that will simply blow your face off and paint your room's walls in red. For their second album - please, may those who had heard about their first album raise their hands ? - the Frenchies of BENIGHTED are really hitting strongly with their brutal Death/Black Metal.

And before anything else, let's be clear, it is not melodic Death/Black Metal à la DISSECTION here, violence is the main thing! The guitars are in a Black/Death-vein, the rhythm section is very precise and in a Death Metal-vein (congratulations to the drummer Fred, not bad at all), and the vocals are in a Death/Grind-vein. That's quite an energetic mix then, and you'll listen with pleasure to "Psychose".

It's also interesting to see that the lyrics are, first, not stupid at all, and secondly most of the time in French. Ok, as the vocals are very guttural, you won't understand shit, and if he was singing in Indian, that would be the same, but it's so rare to see French vocals that I had to mention it. Strongly recommended to all the violence lovers! (Online July 23, 2002)
