Already at the release time of "Thyrfing" and "Valdr Galga", their first two albums, we had been quite a lot thinking that THYRFING was one of those small bands that would become big one day, all the more that ENSLAVED have completely changed their style, and left hordes of fans orphans. "Urkraft" had confirmed that opinion, but didn't make give that huge boost to their career…
Well, with "Vansinnesvisor", if they don't get that boost, then it will mean that justice doesn't exist in this world. The bases are the same, very epic Viking Metal, full of naive but hyper efficient keyboards, and with half-clear, half-screamed vocals. And where THRYFING hits more than in the past is with the work on the tracks, with the technical improvement of the band members, and most of all with the sound of the album. This time they have left the Abyss Studio (already a good one), to go to the Dug Out studios with Daniel Bergstrand, which was quite a surprising choice at first. And that blows everything!
All the more that the artwork, done by Niklas Sundin, is magnificent and wraps up perfectly that little jewel… (Online August 4, 2002)
