2nd Suicide - An Epitaph For The Proud–Demo 2006

I’ve never been the biggest fan of Finnish Melodic Death, so it probably works in 2ND SUICIDE’s favour that they sound somewhat more akin to their Swedish counterparts than to bands like NORTHER or CHILDREN OF BODOM.

As far as Melodic Death Metal goes, this demo is about as unimaginative as it comes. However, the true strength here lies in the flawless execution. “Epitaph For The Proud”, “The One Before Me” and “Oblivion” are all well written, well played and downright catchy songs. Plenty of strong leads, decent screamed vocals, some nice growls - all the hallmarks you would expect. The second track, “Garden Of Stone” is probably the weakest track on the demo. It’s a tad slower than the rest, and is definitely the least engaging, although it is saved from total mediocrity by a cool yet regrettably brief solo.

All considered, this is a pretty promising demo. If 2ND SUICIDE can stabilise their revolving door line-up and possibly change their name to something less cliché, then they just might have what it takes to muscle their way into the already crowded Melodic Death scene.
