Raakku - Seed Divine

Finland has spit out a new band - again. The land of the thousand lakes has an almost uncanny density of bands of basically all styles and presents them to the scene with the precision of a clockwork. RAAKKU hail from the capital Helsinki and are offering us a two track demo, or rather single, to get their name out into the world.

Two songs are not a lot to be able to evaluate what they are all about, hence no rating, but they definitely show promise. Some of the influences are pretty easy to spot, KATATONIA being among them and also MY DYING BRIDE should not be strangers to the songwriters' CD players. So if you do your Metal math correctly, you will arrive at a mix of Doom and Death Metal, with melancholic guitar work and harsh vocals. Add to it a few atmospheric keyboards in the back and you have RAAKKU. Does not sound overly original? Well, it isn't, but the band only formed in 2006, so these are their first steps and they have achieved a surprising level of maturity nonetheless.

"Seed Divine" is the slower of the two, yet never really dipping all the way down into Doom, while "Aberrance" is straighter, but also contains a nice calm break. That is about all I can say about these two songs, I'll keep my eyes open for more, anybody interested can download both songs and hear for yourself.
