"What We See When We Shut Our Eyes" is an album that seems to have been written with the sole purpose of showing the skills of a pair of guitarists. The structure of the songs, the vocals, the lyrics and all the WITH PASSION machinery are just the company, servants of 12 crazy strings that fullfill absolutely everything with their presence.
The only important things in this album are the neverending progressions of unleashed solos and guitar games, blissful stairways to some upper level of technical ecstasy. Unfortunately, the gutarists play a parallel game, in which the too "happy" emotions delivered do not fit with the desperate, schizophrenic atmosphere given basically by the vocal work... technically this is a clockwork, the rhythmic changes are surprising and you can hear a perfect craft, but the music sounds not balanced.
The solos saturate the ambience, they don't give you a break and after a few songs you really want the guitarists to leave their talent behind and deliver some good catchy songs. WITH PASSION are actually close to being a great band, they certainly know how to play and present an interesting mix between the passionate Gothenburg death of DARK TRANQUILLITY and the energy of melodic Metalcore, but the two guitarists have to learn to control themselves before WITH PASSION can become something big.
