Sathanas - Flesh For The Devil

As with their 2006 full-length, SATHANAS have delivered an uncompromising, classic extreme metal record that is old-school to the core. Recorded before the "Entering The Diabolical Trinity" full-length, this under half hour long MCD rocks along in an almost faultless mid-paced groove with catchy, simple rhythms and unapologetically generic lyrics. This is Metal first and statement last.

Indeed, it gives you that same feeling that German Black/Thrash masters DESASTER do. While this is musically much different, the focus on simplicity and being ‘Metal-as-fuck’ is similarly refreshing with its no-nonsense, bang-your-fucking-head attitude. Musically, this is very pure with the similar natural blend of Black, Death and Thrash that characterised pioneers like SODOM, SLAUGHTER and POSSESSED – but with a believability that few of today’s ‘old-school’ bands can manage.

The general quality of the tracks is better than the aforementioned full length, with the material benefiting greatly from the MCD format, which allows the songs real force. Lacking diversity, the similarly structured songs, of similar quality and direction, do not have enough time to become stale or drawn out, leaving the five originals (and one SLAUGHTER cover) sounding crushing and powerful.

It has charm in its simplicity, with the same instant appeal as beer and boobs – you see, you like, you want. End of.
