Sure, W.A.S.P. still have a big fanbase, but let’s be honest, the fat years are over. Albums such as “The Neon God 1 and 2“ had good songs, but also a lot of filler material and it rather sounded like Blackie Lawless’ solo project than Old School Metal. That is still the case anno 2007, just with the difference that “Dominator” is great start to end.
A killer album that indeed can reach highlights such as “The Last Command“ or “The Headless Children“. What, you don’t believe me? Then listen to the opening killer "Mercy". If that is not a future live classic, then I don’t know anymore. And it gets better. “Take Me Up” is even better and has lots of dramatics and an epic touch. On "Heavens Hung In Black" Mr. Lawless delivers the best vocals of his career, no kidding! These definitely were the highlights of “Dominator”, but the rest is anything but bad, “Burning Man“ is a catchy hymn and closing Rock’n’Roll track “Deal With The Devil" reminds me of the band classic “Blind In Texas“.
Finally W.A.S.P. sound like a real band again and how I want them to sound: Original and unbeatable!
