This gem of Metal art is just plain genius. FATES WARNING back then (1986) had been on the zenith of their art, no doubt! Every song is an immortal classic. What should I mentioned singly, you have to enjoy this album as a whole. But the mammoth track "Epitaph" has to be pointed out, because who never could hear this magical piece should call himself "poor fellow". A song that even FATES WARNING themselves haven't surpassed. On more than ten minutes they utilise more ideas than many countless acts on three albums! This song is just divine and epic without end! Detail-freaks will click their tongue!
Also all the others album songs absolutely convince. You won't find such intensity and passion anymore these days. The original vocals of John Arch alone you have to have heard. Pepped up with some bonus-tracks from demo-times we now get one of the 5 most important Metal-albums of all time for nice price in (hopefully) all shops!
Who doesn't know this album now can do that. At least who calls himself a fan of demanding music. Ten points are not enough by far! Of course "Awaken The Guardian" is an equal epos, but in the direct comparison I would take this one. Just don't ask me why… But I don't want to get picky here. So, you Metal Blades: next up we want "Awaken The Guardian", everything clear? (Online October 31, 2002)
