"Buried Alive" fairly cracks along. Solid Power Metal in the HELLOWEEN/SAVATAGE/EDGUY vein with a nod to NOCTURNAL RITES along the way (although not as near heavy). Crammed full of razor sharp riffing, pulsating rhythms and soaring vocal lines this is great stuff! There are a few bits and pieces going on in this album, the band's third, that will keep you interested. It's obvious that ZONATA are not content just to sit firmly in Power Metal land.
Mixing driving riffs with swirling keyboards to great effect in songs such as the EDGUY influenced "The Mourner's Tale" ZONATA are a technically gifted Metallic beast. In fact I will go as far to say that this is classy stuff. Well thought out and produced. The musicianship is of the highest standard and for a change a Scandinavian band that doesn't have guitarists that rip of MALMSTEEN!
Just check out killer songs like "Unleashed", "Buried Alive" which is a superb opening to any album, the quirky keyboard intro into "Visions Of Sorrow" which quickly fills into a superb Power Metal workout and "Dark Chapter" has a swagger reserved for the likes of JAG PANZER and demands to be played very loudly! So if you are after Power Metal with a bit of thought put into it ZONATA are well worth the effort. (Online January 9, 2003)
