Fitting name, to say the least.
ďApocalyptic FeastingĒ is the debut full length of Californiaís BRAIN DRILL, and given the current popularity of Technical Death Metal, this release should propel them right into the forefront of their respective scene, joining the ranks of NECROPHAGIST.
The playing is impeccable on all fronts, with the drums, guitar and bass all finding the perfect balance between sheer brutality and technical brilliance, grinding forth like some demented, psychotic, demonic creature hellbent on destruction. The instrumentation satisfies one of the most important factors in me liking a Grindcore album: The playing is tight. Ridiculously tight. Obscenely tight. Actually, this defies common logic. How on earth are all three musicians (drummer, bassist, guitar player) in time to the microsecond with each other is nothing short of a miracle, and considering the amount of ridiculous sweeps, fretboard tapping and riffs that are best described as a hellish flurry of notes, the talent and the tightness displayed by the musicians is mindblowing. The musicians sound like they were spawned from Satan himself, then, just to because even scarier and more evil, they decided to get cybernetic implants in order to be able to cause more destruction. Itís ridiculous, I tells ya!
Now, this isnít for everyone. If you are one of those people that likes their Metal melodic, hooky, and sane, this isnít for you. However, if you like balls-to-the-wall technicality, arenít deterred by brutality and love feeling aurally assaulted, this album would fit perfectly into your collection, alongside those BENEATH THE MASSACRE, ION DISSONANCE and NECROPHAGIST albums.
Itís not for everyone, but if you like your Metal chaotic, violent and utterly psychotic, "Apocalyptic Feasting" is for you!
