Robin B. Czar’s self titled EP is certainly quite "bizarre" indeed. The three songs here are very interesting and very difficult to put into one genre or another. The first song is an upbeat tune with a lot of clean guitar parts and clean vocals paired with a bit of heavy distortion guitars, while the remaining two songs have a darker and more foreboding feel to them and are a bit heavier.
The songs as mentioned are fairly unique sounding, but I’d have to say there are definite Power and Prog Metal influences here for the most part. There’s also quite a bit of choir-esque vocal chanting in each song as well. The abundance of clean guitars and clean vocals give the album a bit of a mellow feel while still maintaining a harder edge.
The big problem with this EP is that it’s just so rough around the edges. The production is not well done at all with the levels being all over the place. The guitar tone is extremely rough and you’ll constantly be adjusting the volume up and down to try and hear all of what’s going on. It just sounds very unpolished. In the end though, this is an interesting set of songs and I’d suggest checking it out if you get the chance.
