Ufomammut - Idolum

UFOMAMMUT is yet another generic Doom/Stoner Rock band with practically no redeeming qualities whatsoever. But instead of focusing on how boring the songs on "Idolum" are, I’d rather focus on what is possibly the worst production job I’ve ever heard in my life.

If you think you’ve heard a bass heavy mix before, think again. This album is nothing but a constant overload of bass frequencies. I honestly can’t believe this was recorded in a real studio. I feel sorry for these guys if they actually paid money to have this album recorded. I’ve heard clips that people have recorded in their bedrooms with $200 recording setups that sound infinitely more professional than this garbage. The guitars sound like they’re being played on the neck pickup with the low end maxed out on the amps and the bass guitar volume overpowering everything else. The vocals are also buried by the ridiculous amounts of low end, although that’s probably a good thing. All I could make out through the barrage of bass was the occasional scream or whine and I couldn’t make out any lyrics either. I’m pretty sure there are no lyrics. Just random noises every few minutes. Terrible.

I understand that this style of music sometimes calls for this sort of tone and production, but the line needs to be drawn somewhere. I honestly had a mild headache after suffering through the first few tracks on "Idolum." Another thing that gave me a headache was the 27 minute long outro track, "Void Elephantom." I’m sorry, 27 minutes of random, droning crap that has no purpose just isn’t my idea of a good song. This is one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard in my life. Stay far away from this unless you want something to really piss off your neighbors at loud volumes.
