X-World/5 - New Universal Order

X-WORLD/5 includes three Metal celebrities in the line-up. Bassist Magnus Rosén was until recently a member of HAMMERFALL, the guitarist Andy LaRocque is a KING DIAMOND-veteran and vocalist Nils K. Rue is a member of PAGAN’S MIND. These three, together with two more unknown musicians, are X-WORLD/5. This project is something of a futuristic Heavy Metal band. The music is well-played and classic Heavy Metal and added are a few Progressive hints with space sounds, semi-growls and odd keyboard effects.

The playing is stable and without any bigger surprises. Most songs are mid-tempo with fairly melodic choruses backed by slightly heavier verses. It is easily noticeable that this band contains musicians that know this genre well by listening to the typical trademark tricks like the vocalist going into falsetto to create extra force, the slight distortion of voices to create a futuristic feel, the riff-work of a Heavy/Power Metal band and the drum patterns that the fans of this genre know well.

This is all nicely done and the space thing adds and own idea, but still the music is stuck in a stable and safe format that only allows slight excesses. That is why I will give this release 6,5, because it has become my “competent-but-not-much-more”-grade. I feel that the famous musicians on here came in and did their job, but I miss heart and soul and new musical paths.
