After all the ballyhoo about the line-up, I was quite on edge for the second album of METALIUM. What I realised right away: apart from the two ballads "Prophecy" and "State Of Triumph" double-bass reigns high on "State Of Triumph - Chapter Two".
Sometimes fast and crunchy ("Steel Avenger", "Stygian Flames"), then mid-tempo-double-bass with very catchy chorus ("Eye Of The Storm") or like "Inner Sight" with some female vox, a.o. Jutta Weinhold (ex-ZED YAGO, -VELVET VIPER)... Just like on the debut, the band also worked with slightly distorted vocals with very heavy music, yet with a slow-paced chorus with clean vocals on "Erania".
Musically the changes haven't hurt METALIUM, even though I personally miss an epic song like "Free Forever"... But that Henne Basse is one of Germany's best vocalists is no novelty, we all know it since his tour with BRAINSTORM.
And after metalising "Smoke On The Water" on the debut, they have taken on John Miles' "Music" and again they have managed to make it a real Metal-song!
So, just like the debut not the typical Power Metal-album, neither typically German nor American, but right in the middle.
