Dear Metal Gods,
2008 has been a great year for Heavy Metal, but I have committed a sin against your children. I have overlooked a few albums that deserve the attention of my eyes and ears and I must confess that I have learned the err of my ways. Thusly to right my wrong I have purchased the most recent album from your Death Metal prophets KRISIUN.
I apologize for losing my faith in recent years to your Death Metal prophets as they also have fallen to the sin of mediocrity for their praise. Since they had fallen from the pulpit I had not followed them when they released this amazing tribute to your greatness entitled “Southern Storm”. I should have stayed strong with KRISIUN as you have, because they have returned to their glorious monster riffs and musical greatness in many grand ways.
So I must thank you, oh glorious Metal Gods, for bringing KRISIUN back to their rightful place at the front of the Death Metal genre with “Southern Storm”. I thank you for allowing them to show their great musical prowess on songs that are worthy of their talents. Hearing the groove laden riffs, the exceptional blast beated and diversified drumming, the catchy lead like bass work, the praise worthy shredding, and the guttural growls makes me appreciate you, oh Metal Gods, to the grandest degree.
It’s not just the performances from said members that make “Southern Storm” one of the best Death Metal records of 2008, oh no great Metal Gods, but it is the straight for the throat songwriting that KRISIUN create. The writing is the best of the band’s in a decade and it uses the band’s talents in deadly accuracy to create diverse, ever entertaining slabs of pure Metal worship. But I also must thank you Metal Gods, for giving KRISIUN the chance to work with producer Andy Classen once again for this record as his brutal and yet very clear cut mixes and production enhances the overall experience and lifts it out of the ‘Death Metal must be raw to be true’ belief system. It’s a combination that is finally igniting in a most truly blasphemous form.
Thusly, oh Metal Gods, you have brought forth under the fates the return of KRISIUN to their earned position for which many of us began listening to the band. KRISIUN returns the favor of the fates by delivering us “Southern Storm” and it is good. Metal Gods be praised for allowing us to hear one of the best Death Metal albums of 2008.
In your names we headbang.
Songs to check out: “Minotaur”, “Massacre Under The Sun”, “Slaying Steel”.
