Deathstars - Night Electric Night

Alright, every single thing about “Night Electric Night” screams at me to hate it. I mean look at that album art, just look at it, it's awful. The name of the band is ridiculously cheesy and awful too, and what the hell is the title actually supposed to mean? It probably also doesn't help that this kind of Techno/Industrial Metal really isn't my favourite genre.

So it's probably to the band's credit then that I really can't bring myself to really hate “Night Electric Night” as much as I might have. There's not enough substance to it for me to actually despise it, it's far too safe and simple. The Industrial atmosphere and simple riffs are about as inoffensive and easy to listen to as music comes, even if it is undoubtedly boring. Of course, the vocals are those god-awful cheesy Industrial half-spoken half-sung crap that only bands like this would dare use – but still, I managed to get through it without ripping off my ears, that's a positive isn't it?

So, “Night Electric Night” is an Industrial Metal album that is shamelessly generic and undoubtedly boring. To anyone who doesn't have an interest in this genre (e.g me) it's really a chore to listen to, and to anyone who actually does like this sort of music I'm sure there is better stuff out there. The only real praise I can give it is that it doesn't make me want to kill myself. Not really high praise to be honest.
