This is the third outing from the German Melodic Metallers and my first introduction to them. And from the off they are not disappointing: "Hollowed Be Thy Name" is crammed full of driving riffs, sumptuous vocals and a great playing from all involved.
Sticking firmly to the Melodic Metal/Hard Rock end of the spectrum MOB RULES are a potential big time band on the strength of tracks such as "Hollowed Be Thy Name", "House Of Fire", "Ghost Town" and "Lord Of Madness".
Incorporating the Power Metal influences of the obvious HELLOWEEN and smaller division contenders like INSANIA plus the Hard Rock panache of CORNER STONE and HUMAN FORTRESS this is an extremely well executed and mature recording. Thankfully this lot are keen to stress a well balanced and structured order to their Metal and forego the all out speed guitar attack and pummelling drums of so many European bands.
Particular reference must be drawn to lead singer Klaus Dirks who delivers a commanding performance and the guitars of Oliver Fuhlhage and Mattias Mineur are crisp and controlled.
This record holds the attention for the duration and ends with the quite exceptional "Way Of The World" - the way a good album should finish. (Online December 16, 2002)
