No need to look at the info sheet, this sound is so Swedish, it's not even funny. Neo-classical Melodic Metal in a certain vicinity to Power Metal and some keyboards, so we definitely know what we get. Ex-SINERGY, ex-NATION, the singer of Luca Turilli, no greenhorns either...
I do like all those mentioned styles, a lot even, but with DIONYSUS it just doesn't work out the way it surely was supposed to be. I mean, sure, the songs grow on you, the execution and vocal performance are flawless and "Bringer Of Salvation" and "Anthem (For The Children)" are two damn excellent compositions, but the problem is that the rest of the songs sound good, but faceless, heard a lot of times, without a real identity. I know that this is something extremely difficult to achieve, but still, the memorability of the DIONYSUS-material is just not all that there.
Like mentioned before, "Bringer Of Salvation" and "Anthem (For The Children)" are really excellent, but are just not enough for this album to qualify for the next round, there are just too many others out there. But check it out for yourself, those two songs might be enough for you... (Online December 28, 2002)
