Dying Fetus - Destroy the Opposition

One would think that an unflinchingly magnificent piece of work such as DYING FETUSís 1998 album "Killing on Adrenaline" would be pretty hard to follow up on, but itís no surprise that theyíve done it again. "Destroy the Opposition" is a Technical Death/Grind masterwork and should not be overlooked.

If youíre not familiar with DYING FETUS, "Destroy the Opposition" will introduce you to all of the bandís unique elements; the factors which make them one of the top Slam Death artists on the circuit to this day. By this, I mean John Gallagherís fiercely rhythmic growl, complex guitar sections and a brutality factor of 11. Do you expect anything less from a band with this title?

DYING FETUS always have production quality behind them, and "Destroy the Opposition" is no exception. The band really delivers with their modern aesthetic, providing an undoubtedly polished sound. Songs like "Pissing in the Mainstream" and "For Us or Against Us" are some of the best on the album, completely unrelenting and feature some of the most impressive guitar work for the band to date.

DYING FETUS isnít afraid to slow things down though, songs such as "Epidemic of Hate" is well structured for pre-carnage chugging, with Gallagher effortlessly switching between a throaty shout and dog-like grunt. DYING FETUS are definitely at their best here, though itís a shame they are often dismissed as Ďjust another Gore-Death band' and not acknowledged as the ungodly titans they truly are.

If youíve never heard of DYING FETUS, buy this album. If you have, buy this album. Itís a fantastic piece of work and should be treated with the reverence and respect it deserves.
