Strapping Young Lad - SYL
It's sad to hear and know that such an atrocity of epic proportions had to occur on September 11th. Out of this sheer cacophony, one man that is Devin who said that he would never put out another SYL album out again had found a reason to do so one last time. "SYL" is filled with pent up anger and hatred and it shows.

I'll tell you what! Considering it has been six years since "City" and they haven't lost a step. Not one of the members. This crippling music that will mangle the ear drums no matter what volume setting you have it at. "Consequences" is maniacal, ambient, electronic and then some. Devin is always brilliant in composing his music. He has a unique way to mix other ambiences along with his menacing Thrash sounds and pissed off vokills without making it sound like a train wreck. "Relentless" is just that! There is no mercy here for the weak. All of your senses will be violated.

"Rape Song" really borders along the crust line because it's just that nuts with little room to catch your breath. Gene's drumming is always mind boggling as usual and with help from Jed on guitars and Byron on bass, this is one CD that will leave you breathless after it's finished.

If you want to really know how Devin feels about the events of September 11th, feel free to check out "Aftermath", "Devour", and everything else after that. I think that if the event had never happed, "SYL" would still remain a legacy. Well, things happen for a reason and there is a new CD that we have all wanted. Now we got it. Let's all cherish it as this will be it. Devin is and will always be the maniacal genius! (Online March 6, 2003)
