Abortus - Process Of Elimination
Why is it that almost every single Brutal Death band out there attempts to be like the Gods (MORBID ANGEL, SUFFOCATION, etc) and will refuse to bring anything new to the genre? That's the biggest problem I have with the genre, and the biggest problem with ABORTUS. Typical blast beat heavy Death Metal.

Ok, that's not exactly accurate about ABORTUS. They mix a certain Punk attitude and a have a tinge of Hardcore in their music, giving their music a simpler feel, making the band stand apart from other bands of their ilk. The vocalist also sounds like a mix between AT THE GATES and typical Hardcore vocals, so they have another factor to make this band stand out.

Unfortunately, the band fails where it's most important. The songs don't really go anywhere, just plod on endlessly and pointlessly, and 90% of the riffs fail to grab my attention. What's worse is that when there IS a riff on the album that is semi-interesting, the band decides to hammer it to the ground, playing it till the cows come home, therefore removing all the interest you had in it.

This had potential. It failed. (Online April 5, 2003)
