I hope that you all remember this good old Chuck Schuldiner (R.I.P)? But do you remember his parallel project CONTROL DENIED? Yes yes yes, the band that sounded exactly like DEATH (in their latest period), but with a Heavy Metal singer! And you'll remember that the singer in CONTROL DENIED was called Tim Aymar? But why such a long intro to tell you about PHARAOH?
Well, simply because Tim is also the man behind the microphone on this typically US Heavy Metal album… Let's not talk about the story of the band, and let's concentrate on their album. "After The Fire" is their very first one, and is far from being a bad one. A bit half-way between MANOWAR and German Heavy Metal bands for a non-heavy freak like me…
Anyway, there are quite fast rhythms, the guys play quite well, the whole thing being enlightened by a very decent sound, and let's just say it's quite easy to listen to it. I would even admit being pleased by the title track or "Now Is The Time". Well, all in all a small new band to which you can give a chance! (Online April 27, 2003)
