The debut album of the Americans VYNDYKATOR is surely a pleasure for all friends of obscure Metal. They don't care about any trends or any modern sounds - this is phantasmagorical Old School stuff, no question!
Take only the pretty strange vocals/shrieks, which will turn off every EDGUY/STRATOVARIUS fan - burps! This man sounds like a mishmash of Udo Dirkschneider and Tim Baker. Oh, "this man" is nobody less than Bobby Mitchell, exactly the man, who sang on the ATTACKER cult album "Battle At Helm's Deep". Later, he founded SLEEPY HOLLOW, which are pure cult as well. VYNDYKATOR are probably the successors of those two legends and they sound so wonderfully of the 80s, that all fans of that direction will go haywire.
Just hammers like "Riot In the Chamber" or "Mr. Murder", which reminds of ATTACKER, are worth the buy and have an flair beyond all descriptions, which lacks at most of the newer acts. But who also likes acts in the vein of SKULLVIEW or SEASONS OF THE WOLF can check it out unscrupulously.
Unfortunately we only get 7 (great) songs, but the fact, that this was recorded a half year ago, I have the hope for new songs... by the way, Mr. Mitchell also sings at ALCHEMY X, the band around Steve Ratchen, who plays the bass at VYNDYKATOR. There it is more proggy but still cool stuff! (Online April 7, 2003)
