After two Eps and two complete albums SUMMON, one of the oldest US-Black Metal bands, come around with their latest "And The Blood Runs Black" and don't do a bad job. The description Black Metal only can be applied to the lyrics and the hoarse cries, musically the band that with a short break has been around since 1991 is treading the paths of fast, hefty Death Metal, similar to GOD DETHRONED in their "Bloody Blasphemy" days.
The songs mostly are damn fast, but always with sense and intelligence. That is further enhanced by the strong production by old musicians' slut James Murphy (ex-AGENT STEEL, -CANCER, -OBITUARY, -DEATH, -TESTAMENT etc.). Sure, the music is neither new or original, but in their branch SUMMON definitely are among the better ear violators.
In some songs we get little keyboard parts, which makes the whole thing remind me a bit of really old CRADLE OF FILTH, which is not the worst thing to happen. The CD definitely is some hellish fun! (Online April 17, 2003)
