I have to hand it to the boys here. They have been around for about 20 years and they have managed to stay true to their sound and not cave in to the trends that have come and gone and made other artists lots of money. Some that were supposedly true to the cause caved in and tried to jump on the bandwagon and failed.
I respect OVERKILL because they are not in this for the money although it would be nice to make a living from it. OVERKILL makes music for themselves and the fans that clamour over it. I must admit that I have lost track of the band after "I Hear Black" which was in the early 90's. Well, once again, I have this new CD on my lap and I must give it a spin. The boys have not lost a step. They are just as tight and fast as usual except their sound is much better thanks to 21st sound technology. D.D. Verni's bass licks are still thunderous and the drums provided by Tim Mallare are top notch. As for "Blitz", his voice is still classic.
The band manages to sound fresh and keep their signature sound intact without making any sacrifices. Their grooves are just as catchy throbbing as their previous releases. Songs like "Damned" and "Devil By The Tail" are sure to become future classics not only on "Killbox 13", but on stage live as well. The boys have done well once again and that is a good thing. OVERKILL used to have a shirt and a song that remains true today: "WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY...FUCK YOU!" (Online June 22, 2003)
