The midwhile fourth album "Mental Vortex" of the Swiss precision Thrashers is their masterpiece, a work full of overwhelming creativity. Who can deal with the style of the Alpine trio, will be rewarded for the invested time, because Ron Royce, Tommy T. Baron and Marquis Marky (aka Ron Broder, Tommy Vetterli and Marky Edelmann) have not only matured song structures to offer but also strong grooves and brutal Thrash attacks.
CORONER should be too strange for straight Thrashers, because their weird guitar riffs remind more of acts like VOIVOD or ANACRUSIS. CORONER always watched beyond the plate's edge, which is here highlighted by the BEATLES classic "I Want You". Of course, their version is pretty heavy! The remaining songs are perfect Techno-Thrashers, but not too complex but well-executed.
The guitar of Tommy is fabulous. This you can also say for the drumming but the singing, ehm growling, is not that what I understand of a great voice. But it fits nicely into a Thrash band! (Online July 18, 2003)
