Nostradameus - The Prophet Of Evil
Last year's debut "Words Of Nostradameus" had been a pretty good album, even if the department of originality had not really been a strength. Only one year later they now are offering us their second effort, titled "The Prophet Of Evil", so let's risk an ear at what they are presenting us with this time around.

After the title-intro "Hymn To These Lands" is furiously thundering out of my speakers and really blows me away. Powerful, fast Power Metal with a great guitar-melody and equally strong vocals and choir, that is a start that really gets you going! And within this a problem of "The Prophet Of Evil" is lying, one brilliant song at the beginning and after that you don't reach this level anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I do not want to say that you'll get only weak tracks after this, but you don't get anything special anymore. Add to that the problem of almost exclusively double-bass-driven songs (apart from the ballad), so you'll get a little too uniform stuff, lacking the creative power somehow.

Still songs like "Murder" or "Gathering Resistance" are good crackers and if you then get a mammoth-track like "The Final Battle" towards the end, then you will just have to realise that NOSTRADAMEUS are not just yet another clone. This last track has a playing time of almost twelve minutes and excels in a lot of variability in all areas, with cleverly interwoven elements and passages, clearly showing what this band is really capable of!

And as bonus-track of the limited edition there still is "Scream Of Anger", originally done by the old Swedes of EUROPE. I'd never have thought that this was a song of them, thundering double-bass and shredding guitars, I really like that one!

Just like the debut "The Prophet Of Evil", too, delivers solid quality. The originality still is not the biggest strength, but thanks to at least tracks like "Hymn To These Lands" or "The Final Battle" NOSTRADAMEUS stand above the average, a good and powerful production is yet another factor for this...
