Until now I new BROKEN HOPE only for furious Death Metal, but "Grotesque Blessings" comes over surprisingly varied, because apart from the still existent Blastspeed-brutality, the Americans are varying speed and heaviness, what is beneficial for the overall impression for sure.
So almost doomy passages, like in the opener "Wolf Among Sheep" can also be found. The only constant, and with that a negative point, are the uniform vocals, which stay in the deepest depths of growls, a little more variety would have done good for sure.
But variable music doesn't automatically mean that I like BROKEN HOPE, I still miss the melody that "my" music has to be. But still I can attest the technically high-standing Death Metal of the Americans with the revolving door at bass, that they have taken an astounding evolution since the stupidious Highspeed-Death Metal of their beginnings.
