1987, on the zenith of the Thrash Metal wave some bands of the old guard as well as some newcomers released their most groundbreaking albums. Like CELTIC FROST, which released their most experimental and at the same time most successful album with "Into The Pandemonium", while the New York speed monsters OVERKILL threw out their biggest classic with "Taking Over".
The biggest round punch, though, came from Bay Area Thrashers TESTAMENT and their debut "The Legacy". With new singer Chuck Billy (while still playing under the banner of LEGACY Steve "Zetro" Souza had been on the mic, leaving the band before the recordings to replace Paul Baloff at EXODUS) the band with a bang was in everybody's mouths. And deservedly!
Nine battle hymns as the already mentioned EXODUS could not have done any better! And that is something, because their "Bonded By Blood" album is among the eternally 3 best Thrash Metal albums of all times!!! TESTAMENT had the same level of aggression as their musical role models, but the songs were a bit more intricate and with a lot stronger harmonies. Also the necessary luck was on their side as they secured the support slot for the world tour of ANTRAX, who also had been on the pinnacle of their career with "Among The Living".
To go more in depth into the songs of "The Legacy" would be nonsense, who still does not have this album is a slug and should finally repent and get it. Only so much: A similar level was only attained by TESTAMENT with their 1999 album "The Gathering". (Online August 27, 2003)
