Destruction - Sentence Of Death/Infernal Overkill (2 in 1)
DESTRUCTION already have been founded in 1983, by Mike Sifringer and Thomas Senmann under the name of KNIGHT OF DEMON. After a certain "Schmier" was enlisted as singer, they finally re baptized the band to DESTRUCTION. They decided to follow the tracks of MOTÖRHEAD and with that they started the run of success as a trio. After the cult demo "Bestial Invasion Of Hell" SPV/Steamhammer offered the band a deal. Following they thrashed in the mini LP "Sentence Of Death". This technically rather modest album hit the scene like a bomb. Because it already contained the band hymn "Mad Butcher". That was the stuff for the hardest of the hard ones! VENOM/SLAYER/METALLICA fans were enthused and the thing sold like sliced bread!

After that soon the legendary debuts of SODOM, KREATOR or ANGEL DUST followed suit. DESTRUCTION had been the first ones to start the German Thrash wave. One year later the first full album "Infernal Overkill" followed, which showed the band matured a lot technically. Grandiose riffs, a distinct Thrash voice and hefty drum volleys were the recipe of the band. All the songs could convince and without an exception are classics of Thrash Metal! They did not only break through all walls at the same time, but they also featured some mighty mid paced songs like the breaker "Death Trap". Also the super fast "Bestial Invasion" (already known from the demo) was not left out. When in the same year DESTRUCTION got the offer to open up for SLAYER on their "Hell Awaits" tour, the high flyer was perfect!

So who is a real buff for Thrash Metal cannot pass by this milestone. The same goes for the successor "Eternal Devastation". DESTRUCTION have written Metal history and it is great that the band still knows today, how to throw some damn good Thrash Metal into the headbanging crowd. Unfortunately the mentioned classics cannot be surpassed anymore, the band will have to admit that themselves - cult remains cult! (Online August 30, 2003)
