The power trio from Chicago is back, and this time with a French label! Still, this new change of label hasn't modified in anything the musical performances of MACABRE, who are still deeply rooted in their predilection style, which is some extreme Metal, not so far from Grind or Death Metal, and that in no case but be taken on the first degree. We're then quite far away from DEICIDE and co, and the mentality of MACABRE seems to me way closer to GRONIBARD than to any average Black Metaller.
"Murder Metal" is then a typical album of MACABRE, in which they have been able to put together very different and good quality tracks, that gifted also with quite a good sound. Lyrically speaking, it's still dealing with serial killers (mostly Germans this time), which proves that once more, MACABRE remain true to themselves and their beliefs. All in all, nothing that original, but that's a nice album, and one of their best releases… (Online September 17, 2003)
