I have a special faible for primitive, raw, dirty noise a la FLAMES, APOCALYPTIC RAIDS, REPULSION, CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER etc. So I also really like the debut album "I.N.R.I." by Brazilian SARCÓFAGO. The band had been founded back in 1985 by former SEPULTURA member Wagner Antichristo, released the demo "Satanic Lust", off which two songs landed on a sampler, and 1987 finally the already mentioned "I.N.R.I." was released. 1999 Pavement Music re-released the album in CD format.
As already said, the music is very primitive. Wildest Thrash, technically below sub-zero, but belted out into the world with passion and dedication. With all racket the combo still managed to put together a bunch of good alley sweepers. Some mid-tempo parts bring in the necessary variety and the album is extremely catchy.
For today's speed and brutality excesses the material might sound outdated, but some low flyers of today's scene should get this CD, study arduously and stop bore the world with their dead boring releases. Nice greetings go out to Adhab Al-Farhan, who had sent me a very lovely email under the pseudonym of Damien after my review of WINGED SERPENT MASTER. Take this CD and the above mentioned bands and try to come up with comparable material, then you might even get a record deal. (Online September 24, 2003)
