These up and coming Finns lash out on the masses with their second effort. If you're still wondering who they are, I would say CHILDREN OF BODOM mixed with CATAMENIA. I guess when you are friends with the Hate Crew their influence will rub off on you sooner or later. While their music may sound like the bands that I mentioned with the raspy voice combined with the twin melodic guitar leads and tight drumming, there is a key difference. The keys don't flood the songs like CHILDREN's music. They are not as neo-classical either. I think they are inserted in the right spots and they get out which I like.
When something is being played at an aggressive rate, I don't want my music to slow down. Keep forging ahead and don't stop. The songs are catchy and to a degree popish because they are addicting and the tunes can easily be hummed to. NORTHER has a lot to offer and are crafty with their musicianship and songwriting skills. I think that they will come into their own soon and will not be compared to the former bands mentioned. Just like when SOILWORK was consistently compared to IN FLAMES in the beginning, they finally broke free. NORTHER, I believe will be able to do the same thing.
There is a ton of potential that is just waiting to be tattooed into your brain and ears. Here's a little tip here. "Betrayed" is a mix of haunting atmospheres with a tinge of Black Metal sounds tossed in. This is really eerie and creepy. Got to love it! This CD is evil, catchy and packed with venom. Serve me up more of this goodness. (Online October 27, 2003)
