Atrox - Orgasm

Norwegian band ATROX had already been founded in 1988 under the moniker of SUFFOCATION. At first the band still played Death Metal, as could be heard on the first demo "Silence The Echoes" (1997) and the debut album "Mesmerized" (1997). The two following CDs from 1999 and 2001 on Season Of Mist featured more Gothic Metal, influenced by THE GATHERING.

Singer Monika might still be known from THE THIRD AND THE MORTAL and here can full live out her perverse musical likings, because the current epos contains progressive schizophrenic Metal, which eats away the nerves of the reviewer. Everything might sound technically profound, but the most important thing still remains a red line, which identifies a song as one. And that is what I am missing here completely. Some passages can enthuse, yes even grip, but then we get some hysteric part and the whole atmosphere is gone again.

ATROX go a lot too far with their avantgardism. I have listened to this CD several times and can't find any access - a pity as I normally like those weird sounds - but not THAT weird! (Online December 28, 2003)
