Name: Mathieu Bibeau
Email address: email@example.com
Functions: Reviews, interviews, articles
Compatible styles: Mostly Melodic Death but I do enjoy Death, Black, Thrash and a few more...
Incompatible styles: Grind, bleh, can't take that. Power Metal is not my thing anymore either.
Nicknames: Stuttering Bill
Time at TMO: Hmmm if I recall correctly, since around fall 2000
How came at TMO: I was dead drunk and two hot girls came by to see me, they brought me back to a small apartment and started to undress and caress each other. I couldn't believe it and just when I was getting ready to join them, I woke up on my computer keyboard, realized the whole thing was just a dream, started speaking with Reverend Wes and learned about Alex. I sent a couple of e-mails [and a demo review] to Alex and he immediately noticed my incredible talent. I got hired right away.
The best thing as a TMO writer: I'd lie if I said something else than "getting free CD's" so I'll just say : Getting free CD's! Oh that and also meeting cool people worldwide, discovering bands with immense talent and being part of the Brotherhood!
The worst thing as a TMO writer: Not having the chance to meet some of the bands I love/know because they're so far away [same for meeting other members of The Metal Observer]. Not getting enough free CD's sucks too.
Live reviews 2
How I came into Heavy Metal: I gradually started listening to heavier music as the years went by. I bought a few "Metal" CD's from time to time [like MÖTLEY CRÜE's "Doctor Feelgood", MEGADETH's "Countdown To Extinction" and METALLICA's... "Metallica", eh]. At one time, I got into stuff like MARILYN MANSON and KORN and a friend made me listen to some RHAPSODY "Emerald Sword" and I loved it. After that... I started getting into more "Extreme" Metal...

Birth town: Saint-Georges de Beauce, Québec, Canada
Present location: Montréal, Québec, Canada
Job: Student in 3D animation and visual effects in cinema and television
Languages: French and English... I'll try to learn new ones along the way
Hobbies: Video games, reading, listening to music [duh!], movies...
Pet peeves: I don't know what that means but I'll say this, I hate it when people judge a book by its cover and yet, I somehow believe it's in the human nature to do so... I myself sometimes can't help but class people in stereotypes because of how they look...
Phobia(s): I hate bugs [especially spiders] but I doubt it's a phobia... I also fear mankind will destroy Earth before I die...
I, about myself: I can't stop talking and I'm such a jester, I make people laugh. I guess you could also say I'm mentally unstable but eh, don't tell it to my doctor.
Funny childhood story: Once I was on my skateboard and I jumped off a ramp but didn't quite land my trick. I fell hard on my head [on a cement floor] and it took a good chunk off my skull. It left me in pretty bad shape and still there's 30% of my head that's bald due to the big scar... Did I mention I was a liar too? I hope I did because that story isn't true!
Band & previous band experiences: None... and it's sad because I would have liked it I think.
Instrumental talents: None... and it's sad because I would have liked it I think. Instrumental talents: I have had a guitar for 9 years now but since I play about once each 6 months, I can only play songs like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from NIRVANA. I ain't good at guitars...
Favourite bands: It's ever changing so check it out for updates. Right now, you could say IN FLAMES, DIMMU BORGIR, DARKANE, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, FEAR FACTORY, OPETH, ARCH ENEMY, EBOPNY TEARS and SOILWOFK
Least favourite bands: ICED EARTH sucks, I mean they really do! I hate a lot of bands... but I'm open-minded.
Sound you'd like to have banned: Country, dance, techno, hip hop!
Most overrated bands: Iced Earth! Darkthrone too...
Most underrated bands: Ebony Tears and Darkane
Favourite musician: There are so many great musicians I really can't tell.
Favourite album cover: In Flames "C-o-l-o-n-y"
10 favourite albums:
Ebony Tears - Tortura Insomniae
It's raw and brutally magnificent, the production is cold and hard, it's one of the best Melodic Death album ever recorded, period.
Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
Growing more melodic and symphonic with each album, Dimmu Borgir has achieved something few other Black Metal bands have managed to do: blend fast-picked riffs and ghastly vocals with engulfing symphonic orchestra to perfection!
In Flames - The Jester Race
Do I really need to comment on this album?
System Of A Down - System Of A Down
Refusing to follow the generic Nu-Metal market infesting the United States of America, System Of A Down came out of nowhere with this album of savage intelligence.
Darkane - Rusted Angel
Redefining the barriers between Thrash and Melodic, Darkane's debut CD features eerie vocals, grinding guitars and unbelievable drumming. You want to know what the future of metal looks like? Grab "Rusted Angel" today.
Metallica - Master Of Puppets
James Hetfield's rock-solid performance on this record is almost inhuman! Precise riffs and amazing solos [both from Hetfield and Hammet], to me, this is one of the 5 most important Metal albums of the century, nothing less!
Fear Factory - Obsolete
Yet another great American band... Fear Factory's 3rd full-length takes the shape of a concept-record displaying a dark and sterile future where mankind is a slave to the machines. This record will get your head-banging for sure!
Soilwork - Chainheart Machine
Taking everyone by surprise, Soilwork unleashed "The Chainheart Machine" in 2000 and every Metalhead rejoiced. With complex song-structures and innovative leads, "The Chainheart Machine" has pushed Soilwork at the top with other great Swedish acts like DARK TRANQUILITY, IN FLAMES and AT THE GATES.
Arch Enemy - Burning Bridges
Emotional and yet so aggressive. Liiva's final and best work with Arch Enemy. A sad masterpiece with gloomy melodies of grief and pain... Excellent!
Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery
Beautiful melodies and remarquable folk influences. Yet another cornerstone of European Metal at its best!
Most embarrassing CD in your collection: Iced Earth's "Burnt Offerings"
Favourite films: "Snatch", "Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels", "Reservoir Dogs", "Pulp Fiction", "Tommy Boy" and "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain"
Favourite books: "IT", "The Stand", "Christine", "The Catcher In The Rye", "Animal Farm" and mostest most favoritest : George Orwell's '1984'
Favourite food: I looooove chicken. Nothing like a beautiful piece of breast! Or a pair of them...
Favourite drink: Coke. My blood is brown because I drink too much of that poison.
Favourite smokes: Er... I don't smoke... er... cigarettes...
Which song should be played at your funeral: Maybe KORN's "Dead"... there are so many good death songs. SYSTEM OF A DOWN's "Aerials" or that lullaby at the end of Luca Turilli's solo CD "Kings Of The Nordic Twilight".
Idol(s): I don't really "worship" anyone but there is a guy I love and he's some kind of "ideal in terms of humour": Tim Allen. He's an American comedian and he's just TOO funny. Great guy.I don't really "worship" anyone but there is a guy I love and he's some kind of "ideal in terms of humour": Tim Allen. He's an American comedian and he's just TOO funny. Great guy.
Person you'd like to meet: Tim Allen! I'd also like to meet the staff at TMO.
Catchphrase: "C'est tout". It's French and it means "That's it". I always say that when I don't know how to end a conversation.
Biggest thrill in life (so far): Being Mathieu Bibeau each and everyday. I love life, I really do.
Goal in life: To be myself and stay a kid till I die.
Secret: If I told you it wouldn't be a secret now would it? Ok I'll just tell you one then, Mathieu Bibeau and Josh Drover are really the same person, only I like using different names and pretending I'm from Newfoundland.
