You just gotta love Brian Slagel Metal Blade-boss), the guy doesn't follow any trends and keeps the bands he likes. How many other labels have had the same bands for over 15 years? Bands like FATES WARNING, RIOT and CANNIBAL CORPSE have waved the Metal Blade-flag for the newer generations. FLOTSAM AND JETSAM is one of those bands, unleashing "Doomsday For The Deceiver" on the public in '86 and has not looked back since. "My God" is F&J's latest release and 8th overall, and will definitely not disappoint its fans, if you are into thrashy Power Metal you could not go wrong.
F&J is just F&J, a long suffering band who continues to craft edgy, Metal-man's Metal, fighting it out in the clubs, forever carving a place in history, destined to someday warrant a tribute album. This CD makes only minor adjustments over past albums, reconstituting with a Thrash-anger that is a return to their roots of old. All the perfection in still here, but the band's best production shakes this bad-boy vigorously. It's a fist clenched ride for sure, destined to please fans while probably not gathering that many new ones.
Still, I love this band, playing the type of Metal they love, the same exact metal they were playing in their rookie days. Eric A.K is the best keep secret in Metal. The man is a vocal god, commanding the mike with his emotion and persona. This is one of his best performances ever, rating up there with all the greats. If you have not heard this guy, you are doing yourself a big mistake.
Also of note, the reviews I've read of this CD are a mixed bag. Some stating its the greatest CD F&J has released, others say its the biggest crap ever put on plastic. Well for the record, screw what other people think, you buy music because you like Metal and the band that's playing it, its not really up to someone else whether or not a CD is good or bad, that's your opinion. I think this CD is freakin' awesome, tracks like "Dig Me Up To Bury Me", "Camera Eye" and "Frustrate" are ass-kicking tunes, the likes of which I have not heard in the longest time.
This is an album from a band that deserves so much more then they have ever gotten. Ok, I've set my piece, now back to some "My God" (they really are my Gods), later all.......
