NOCTUARY - "When Fires Breed Blood" - how may that sound? If you then take a look at the cover, then it is again amusing, how these three pure superficialities lead to making a picture of the band and its music.
My "guess" had been Death and Black Metal and a mixture of the two was what awaited me on the album.... Or not, because what NOCTUARY show us on their debut is just not yet another example of that, but a little more. Instead of just mixing the usual elements of the respective styles they take up some other influences in song-structures and sound to differ.
Well-timed infusions of slower, more atmospheric parts in their partly very fast Black/Death, traditional Metal-riffs, suddenly a super-melodious solo or a just as sudden pure piano-passage, it all prevents them from slipping into the uniformity (too) many of their genre-colleagues have fallen victim to.
There is quite some potential for improvement still, but with their willingness to diversify the traditional sound, NOCTUARY for sure are on the right way and every genre-connoisseur should at least take a listen into "When Fires Breed Blood"!
