Beyond description is what the new album of Dutch WITHIN TEMPTATION is! Almost everywhere they are packed into the Gothic-category, but the atmosphere is just too "positive" for that. I'd rather call it symphonic Art Rock, because the dominating guitars are missing for a categorisation as Metal.
The dreamlike arrangements almost cross the threshold into classical music, plus some Celtic influences, which attest a slight Neo-Folk-touch. Forget all those categories, this is just pure genius and the best is yet to come: The voice of Sharon Den Adel simply is not from this world. The emotions emanating from this lady send shivers after shivers down your spine. I almost packed my bags to leave for Holland just to meet this goddess. But for one I am far too shy and then she already goes with guitarist Robert Westerhold, sniff! You cannot have everything, but you can have this CD!
As mentioned before, nothing for Metal-purists, but for friends of classy music, with much love in the detail, where you, as you all know, will find the devil! Forget THERION! Who had been NIGHTWISH? WITHIN TEMPTATION are the symphonic gods of the day, at least for me. The chorus of the title-track is haunting me for days now. On the last track Sharon sounds like Loreena McKennitt, another lady whose voice does seem to be extraterrestrial. Madness!
