The mad Russians are back! I just had digested their confusing debut "Planeshift", now we have the next effort in "Jabberworks".
Of course RAKOTH again are a thorn in every critic's eye! Which drawer should we open for them? But what joy, RAKOTH again manage to remain accessible in all their complexity. So it doesn't matter that a Doom-Song intertwines with Prog-parts until shrieking vocals set in and despite its folky attitude a merciless blastbeat ends the song with icy riffing. RAKOTH don't shrink away from using medieval parts, of combining Gothic-like arrangements with PINK FLOYD-ish sounds, before the song turns into pure Black Metal and ends with an almost poppy melody with acoustic guitars. By using a complete Russian orchestra the whole compositions sound even more authentic!
The songs all are very thought-through and you can either attest genius or insanity. The songs are dramatic, the clean vocals very emotive - great! But you really need strong nerves to find access to this beautiful music! Madness!
