Celesty - Times Before The Ice
Power Metal from Finland - you think of stuff like STRATOVARIUS, SONATA ARCTICA, maybe THUNDERSTONE. Soon also CELESTY? Why not, I'm no prophet (otherwise, bands like TAD MOROSE, MOONLYGHT or others would have a completely different another rank), but "Times Before The Ice" is absolutely promising.

Okay, the six guys from Seinäjoki won't win a prize for originality, however, I can, no, I have to attest the three songs of this demo (the rest is Intro and Outro) some songwriting class. Epic, mainly fast Power Metal with some keyboards and very good arrangements, this is what CELESTY is offering, and this record absolutely doesn't have to dodge behind the praised and above-mentioned THUNDERSTONE, this one is too good.

In spite of the mostly jaunty musical tempo, they include enough diversified elements, for being not to monotonous and to attract the listener. Kimmo Perämäkis' very pleasant and good voice and the good, clear production contribute to the positive general impression.

Winning in a HELLOWEEN-cover-contest led to a deal with the Spanish Arise label and this is absolutely deserved. Meanwhile, "Times Before The Ice" is sold out, but you can download the songs from their band homepage, it will be worthwhile! (Online October 9, 2002)
