My Dying Bride - For Darkest Eyes (DVD)

I actually had the video for this already, but as DVD it's even better, I love it, it is just fantastic! I am a huuuuuge MY DYING BRIDE fan, I should say that first, I guess.

The music is great, slow and energetic, very heavy Doom Metal with occasional violin, great sad melodies and big riffs. Musicianship is great, with great sad, whining, sombre, talking vocals, while the Death Metal grunts sound great here, too, if you are going for screams, there are good and bad ones, a very good example for a good one would be Tom Araya from SLAYER and Aaron from MY DYING BRIDE also sounds cool, when he does so.

The songs, too, are fantastic, they could not be any better to me, and the production is up to that as well, very good! You can find six promotional videos on the DVD, great songs combined with very good depressing images, we get woods, burning torches, altars, candles, mystic images, crosses, darkness, dying brides, Jesus impersonations and thorns and blood and serious looking band members, bloody gravestones, it's not high budget videos, but very artistic and very cool. All the stuff that makes me happy, basically. That's the way it works with me, great music, sad and slow and sombre that gives me a good feeling. Give me a Britney Spears song and I get depressed...

Then there are ten songs live in concert from Krakow, Poland, from March 1, 1996, with a great live performance, energetic, with great sound and an enthusiastic Polish crowd. They have good editing and a great live show, also with the live violin. The song selection is great as well, professionally filmed with good sound.

Then there is some additional extra footage on the DVD, a cool amateur video shot of an early live performance from the Netherlands in 1993, with eight songs and a not so good sound, but it's really cool for fans like myself to hear this stuff. Then there is an early live performance of the song "Sear Me" from 1992, from the Dynamo festival 1995 four live songs with lots of camera angles and ok sound, very good crowd in a big tent. Then there are photo galleries with lots of band photos or art photos while MY DYING BRIDE music is playing. You get a lot of record sleeves and rare albums and that.

Soundwise you can choose between Dolby Digital Surround 5.1 and Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 and I think it sounds great! The time is around 200 minutes, I think it is a great DVD, if you like good, depressing music, just great stuff. (Online April 23, 2003)
