LAY DOWN ROTTEN were formed back in 1999 as a solo-project of Daniel Jakobi, who was playing bass in a Power Metal Band at that time. In fact he wasn't very happy with that because his heart was pounding for good old Death Metal.
So he made the decision to get a recording-tool to work on some song ideas. After the first song was recorded he decides to put more time on his project and resented the material to some friends and other musicians who were very amazed of his work. So in May 2000, Daniel Jakobi, Timo Claas, Johannes Pitz and Daniel "Mini" Benner decided to form a complete band and LAY DOWN ROTTEN was born.
They worked hard and after 3 months they got a complete set of songs to play.
In November 2000, they recorded their first 4-track DEMO-CD "Colder As Cold" that was sold to friends and on concerts appr. 250 times.
In 2001, they played some more gigs with regional established bands to get the chance to gain some live experience.
In July 2001, they began to record their second Demo-CD "Way Of Weakness". Because of the fact that they produced the CD by themselves they spend nearly 4 months to finish the recordings. "Way Of Weakness" was sold appr. 300 times.
In August 2001, Johannes Pitz left the band for job-related reasons and Uwe Kilian completed the band again.
Because of the good resonance on the first two Demo CD's and their concerts (for example with REAPER, BURDEN OF GRIEF, FALL OF SERENITY, MEATKNIFE and DEATH REALITY) LAY DOWN ROTTEN wrote more songs in 2002. Unfortunately there was not much money at that time to record the new stuff, so they tried to save money and rehearsed a lot.
Then, in April 2003, LAY DOWN ROTTEN entered the Desert-Inn Studio in Edingen to record their first "real" album "Paralyzed By Fear" within 2 weeks. Straight after the recordings were done they looked for a label that was worth and willing to work with them. That label was found in Remission Records after a short time.
At the moment LAY DOWN ROTTEN work on a small tour to promote their debut album. They are also working on new songs for the following album that is set for release via Remission Records at the end of 2004.
