Degrade - Feasting On Bloody Chunks

Short and sweet this demo does exactly what a demo should. It packs a quick punch and leaves you wanting more. DEGRADE may not be the most original as they play a general American styled brutal Death Metal with heavy grooving low tuned slow riffing mixed with sections of blasting brutality. The riffs are of a high enough standard and are executed well and the drumming likewise, yet for me it stood out more so because there was something a little different about the drummer's style that I liked.

Vocally the band go for the grunting pig approach and the vocalistís delivers this pretty good if a little flat and lifeless. The production is nice and bassy giving the perfect Death Metal sound, but the snare drum is a little too high pitched and poppy for my liking and it can be a little annoying in the faster sections. This complaint aside it is only a demo after all and the quality of the material means that the band are certainly capable of good things.

A little more development, both of music and identity, is needed in order for the band to really succeed in the future. For now however fans of Death Metal shouldn't be afraid to check this out as it is pretty good. (Online February 14, 2004)
