S.O.T.E.
We are S.O.T.E. which is an abbreviation of SONGS OF THE EXILE, a power trio founded in 1993.
Our current line-up is: Gerton Leijdekker - guitar, baritone guitar, guitarsynth. and vocals Peter H. Boer - 6-string fretted- and fretless bass, 8-string bass, foot controlled synth and backing vocals Emile Boellaard - Drums, percussion, pad controlled synth and backing vocals
Our music is best described as Progressive/Symphonic Rock. Influences however are more diverse: RUSH (who else?), DREAM THEATER, YES, ZAPPA, HOLDSWORTH, WAGNER, BOZZIO, MAHLER, VAI, MONK, etc. While composing few rules are taken into account, only that it has to be (somehow) playable for a trio, the result is a mix of loud & soft, tight & open, wide & small. The use of 'extended range' instruments and added guitar, pedal and pad synths broadens the musical spectrum to far outside a normal power trio.
Peter's lyrics give a cynical view of the world and therefore fit the music and emotion laden vocals of Gerton.
In 2000, we independently released our album "Time Re-Arranged" which received very favourable reviews and led to the new album "Time To End" being released by Musea Records in August 2003. This album in turn received and receives very favourable reviews.
