Attacker - Soul Taker

Who knows the two cult albums "Battle At Helm's Deep” (1985) and "The Second Coming" (1988) by American ATTACKER? Exactly this band unleashes a comeback album from the crypt that every old Metalhead will get an erection up to the throat. If this year continues like this, then 2004 will be the Metal year of reunions. At first EXODUS serve us an ingenious album, then NASTY SAVAGE come across the ocean with the divine “Psycho Psycho” album and now ATTACKER with the original singer off their debut!

The guy’s name is Bob Mitchell and he also sings for VYNDYKATOR and ALCHEMY X. His shrill voice already had made “Battle...“ a cranky album and what should I say, on “Soul Taker” he sounds better than ever. Who likes rough organs such as David Wayne (METAL CHURCH) will fall to his knees here. But what I am especially enthused about are the gripping vocal melodies, which are far away from the polished stuff you get all the time. Also instrumentally they have quite something on offer.

As if the time had stopped in 1986, the axe duo Pat Martinelli & Mike Benetatos spoil us with beautiful leads and wild solos. Nice that there still are bands that manage to catapult the Mid-Eighties feeling into the here and now, which is leeched by banal clones. ATTACKER deliver an absolute killer and I would be more than happy to see them on German stages this year. Best thing would be together with VYNDYKATOR and ALCHEMY X!!! (Online February 23, 2004)
